Cultural Stream ~ Aboriginal Girls Program

Overview

The Cultural Stream is a transformative wellbeing program for Aboriginal girls in Years 7–10. Grounded in cultural knowledge, identity strength, and connection to Country, this program supports girls to reconnect with their centre while deepening their sense of belonging, pride, and emotional wellbeing.

Delivered in partnership with selected NSW schools on Gumbaynggirr Country, the Cultural Stream creates a safe, nurturing space where girls can come together, share openly, and grow.

Program Focus

Each session weaves together:

  • cultural knowledge and women’s practices

  • circle‑based sharing and guided wellbeing discussions

  • conscious creativity and hands‑on cultural activities

  • identity strengthening and emotional regulation

  • connection to Country, community, and culture

The program is designed to help girls feel grounded, confident, and connected — to themselves, to each other, and to culture.

How the Cultural Stream Works

The Cultural Stream is delivered through monthly sessions, each exploring a key theme centred around cultural identity, personal growth, and shared empowerment.

Where Sessions Are Held

In Schools: Some sessions take place within local Mid North Coast high schools, offering a familiar and accessible environment for the girls.

On Country: Other sessions are held on Country, allowing girls to deepen their connection with nature, culture, and themselves. These sessions support cultural grounding, identity pride, and emotional safety.

Creative Cultural Activities & Gifts

Each session incorporates a creative cultural activity — weaving, making, crafting, or creating something meaningful. Girls receive a small cultural gift to take home, serving as a reminder of their journey, their identity, and the collective strength of the group.

These gifts become anchors of belonging, pride, and connection.

Holding Space for Our Girls

Holding space is at the heart of Sista Business. It means walking alongside each girl with respect, care, and non‑judgment. It means creating an environment where she can show up exactly as she is — seen, heard, and valued.

Through this program, we empower the next generation of young Aboriginal women by strengthening self‑awareness, cultural connection, resilience, and emotional wellbeing. Every girl leaves knowing she is supported, she belongs, and she is not alone on her path.

Delivery Options

Schools can engage the Cultural Stream through:

  • a single cultural session

  • a one‑term cultural program

  • a semester program

  • a full 12‑month cultural journey

This flexibility allows schools to meet the needs of their students and community.
